today, i've come with two greatly contrasting thoughts. three, actually.
two positive, and one negative.
since i've initially set up this blog for the sole purpose of ranting and informing others of my daily life, i shall express my utmost disappointment for my school right now.
i've come into Anglican high, with high hopes for the school. yes, i really did.
it was the name of the school that came straight into my mind when i filled in my form after the psle. well, after dunman high, that is. nonetheless, i've heard countless positive remarks about our school, and assumed that i could have a positive studying environment here.
however, after my three years in here, the countless incidents, events, changing and demolishing of systems, and more importantly, the amount of respect the school gives the students has made me change my mind. i'm sure all students of our school share the same thought, don't we?
The abolishing of the bonding camp, and almost the prom, the many angered teachers that left our school, the relocation of secondary 4 classrooms that resulted in secondary 3s spending 75% of our secondary school life on the top level, the construction of the new indoor stadium that resulted in some ccas losing their funds, the inability to pay our conductors, the constant nagging about us underperforming, us being not confident enough to speak up.
let us turn our heads to our principal. her name shall not be revealed such that the members of the public would not know. even if they do, i personally feel i have not done something serious enough to land me in the principal's office like i did previously. i admit the other time went abit overboard, with personal attacks included. minor ones though. i'm posting about the truth with no alterations of any sort. well, just to be on the safe side.
if i were to be severely punished for sharing my thoughts about the operating system of the school, without any form of personal attack like vulgarities and so on, i would add one more category to our school: propaganda. i will try my best not to hold any negative connotations in this entry, for i ultimately love my school. the students and most of the teachers, that is.
what is the use of the praises about our school on the newspapers every time we hold an annual event? the students here are silently complaining. what is the use of letting the public know only about the many 'special events' our school holds? we might as well be modelled after hitler's country then. or in my recent cases, the problem in myanmar. well, that's exaggeration of course. but somewhat like that.
you see, here's the simple logic on why the school, or more of our principal, gets so angry when our results have shown a decline.
students underperform -> school's band drop -> public have bad impression of school -> public come to a conclusion that principal is not doing a good job -> principal's reputation is destroyed.
that's our society, basically. so, the only way to make the public change their views.. the principal's supposed to do something of course. in this case, it holds the form of "nurturing" our "student leaders" by force and scoldings, constant naggings and maybe threatening.
this morning, our aggravated principal stepped up on stage, and started by praising the lower secondary. there's no wonder why most of them don't really dislike her, we are the batch of guniea pigs after all, be it for the moe in terms of changing of syllabus and so on.
anyway, that's not the point. as i was saying, after she praised them, she went on about us, the secondary threes.
our principal fell off her chair while looking at our results. true, i might say. our standards have dropped this year, but it is eventually due to the study environment and so on.
would beating a child without and explaination help him to learn, or give him the motivation to want to work harder? through eavesdropping, i have come to a conclusion that the teachers share the same thought.
we were used to the naggings, but this morning she was so mad, i would understand that, such that a dialougue session was needed for underperforming classes.
namely, 3L and 3F.
3F - the class where slightly weaker students are put into [there shouldn't be such a system in the first place. stronger and weaker students should be mixed such that they can help each other and produce better results. if not, the "labelling" of the so called "worst class" would occur. a few slack students + majority half slack students = a class of slack students. no form of discrimination here, i don't even like these labelling things]
3L - the class where most students have opted out of triple science due to interest, supposedly the 4th class in the level according to psle tscore (-.-|||) but have terrible attitude towards studies.
i totally agree, 3L has 0 attitude towards studies and we piss the teachers off, we are underperforming. but well, is there still such a need for this dialougue?
{ITS NOT DONEEEE! D:}
but yes, the dialogue itself wasn't that bad, its just too much 'normal encounters' that triggered me off. lol -.-
